Sunday in the rain and wind

This is a brand new blog for Dreamchaser, as we have never had a blog before.  Many people are interested in the daily activities of our very busy and labor intensive ranch.

We have 30 horses, five of which are still wild, 3 burros, 2 delightful mini horses, 20 goats and sheep, 2 llamas, 6 potbelly pigs, 6 chickens, 2 peacocks, 3 dogs, 7 feral cats (all fixed), and 2 house cats.  Can you tell we are all about the animals?
Honestly, I started out rescuing only Premarin mares and foals, but the assorted farm animals arrived due to calls for help from the Arizona Humane Society.

We spent a lot of today jigging horses around to keep our special needs ones protected and warm.  It has been cold, windy, rainy, and we have had hail.  There are snow covered Bradshaw Mountains, and New River Mesa had snow this morning.  Annie is 23, Beauty will be 24, Miss Kitty is 28, Rosie is over 20, Phoenix is over 20, Beau is way over 20 and recently rescued, Rush is 20 and gets cold easily - well I guess you get it.  We are even blanketing them tonight since it is getting colder by the minute and the wind is howling.  Yes, we are in Arizona!

Annie came from a ranch that didn't want her when she couldn't be bred any more, Beauty's owner loved her and wanted to be assured she would be with Dreamchaser for the rest of her life (her owner was dying of cancer).  Miss Kitty has loving owners and is a member of our family, Rosie came as a surprise pregnant mare from a PMU farm in the US (she was dumped here), Phoenix was rescued by a farrier and delivered to us extremely emaciated (she is a Fresian), Beau was abandoned, and Rush is one of our first Premarin mares (along with Dusty).  They are all so precious and special and we hope you will enjoy knowing their stories.

  3. I volunteer at the ranch four days a week, and every single day I am amazed at what I observe. Unconditional love is given to these horses and other animals. A truly incredible Horse Rescue facility. Sharon
